Women’s health/ Men’s health

Hormones are important to our health. They can be metaphorically described as the maestros of the symphony of nutrients, neurotransmitters, and vitamins. Often, patients will be placed on hormones by a cookbook formula from a conventional physician and the drug company, or the pharmacist who sells the preparation. The effects of the hormones upon the rest of the body must be appreciated, other wise the person is only to become dependent on another simple fix to a complex problem.

Often people who take vitamins see no effect of the vitamins because it is the interactions of the hormones which have not been evaluated. Because we are so different, only an integrative approach will be able to fine tune our instruments, particularly as we go through the periods of puberty, post-partum, perimenopausal, and menopausal.

In addition, thyroid hormones will be an area which has to be constantly evaluated and small nutritional changes can affect our fatigue, sleeplessness, and weight gain.

The adrenal glands which sit on top our kidneys help with stress. Often there are underlying subtle problems which need to be addressed to help us function. Often women who are depressed are sent to other physicians, their diagnosis quickly assumed and are partially helped by antidepressants. Frequently hormone therapies must be addressed.
